GUNNISON, Colo. – Westminster women's volleyball (2-9, 0-4 RMAC) lost in straight sets at Western Colorado (7-6, 3-2 RMAC) on Saturday at Paul Wright Gym.
In the first set, the Griffins trailed 16-9 but climbed back into contention with a 13-6 run to tie the score at 22-22. The Mountaineers ended the Westminster rally with three straight points to take the set.
Western Colorado ended the second set with seven straight points and used a 9-2 run at the beginning of the set to build a small cushion they never gave up.
The Griffins held a 11-5 lead in the final set that the Mountaineers erased with 10 straight points. Westminster couldn't recover, as the teams traded points until Western Colorado took the set and the match.
Audrey Green led the Griffins with 10 kills and
Aggie Roese-Olsen had 17 assists.
Jordyn Todd had 11 kills for the Mountaineers, and Emily Mangone had eight. Hanna Hendrickson recorded 26 assists.
The Griffins return home on Tuesday for a non-conference matchup against Montana Western at 7 p.m. Westminster continues conference play next weekend on the road against Fort Lewis College and Adams State.
