"They were a little drained from the emotin of Friday night's overtime win over Dixie," Head Coach
Josh Pittman said about the team. "A couple of nice goals from
Danny Darelli got us going and
Max Bingman finished the game off with two in the second half."
The Griffins controlled the game with nearly 60 percent of possession, outshot Cougars 16-9 with seven shots on goal and had nine corner kicks.
Skyler Kjellander provided the assist for the opening goal in the seventh minute. Kjellander drove to the goal line on the left and cut the ball back 12 yards for Darelli who beat the keeper with a shot to the low right corner.
Darelli scored his second by a toenail.
Brody Nelson played a low driven cross from the left edge of the penalty box. Darelli slid to beat the defender and poked the ball past the goalkeeper.
Darelli's brace gave the home side a two-goal lead at the end of the first half.
Bridger Hansen set up the Bingman's first goal with a long free kick in the 78th minute. Bingman ran onto the ball into the right corner of the penalty box and passed the ball past an on rushing CCU goalkeeper.
A bit of fortune provided Bingman's second goal after a CCU defender stopped a ball feet from the goalkeeper. Nelson reacted the quickest and poked the ball towards the center of the goal box where Bingman was waiting.
"CCU came out with a lot of energy in the second half but we managed it well," Pittman remarked.
The Griffins are on the road next weekend at University of Colorado-Colorado Springs on Friday and Regis on Sunday. The griffins improve to 4-2 overall and 2-0 in conference.
