SALT LAKE CITY, Utah—Westminster women's volleyball got off to a two-set lead against Black Hills State. The Yellow Jackets stole the momentum in the third set and won final three sets to defeat the Griffins, 3-2.
Winning the first two sets 26-24 and 25-23 were hard fought wins. Between the sets, the score was tide 20 times and the lead changed five times. The Griffins recorded 15 kills and .395 hitting in the first set and 13 kills and .270 hitting in the second.
During the first set, Audrey Green led with seven kills on nine attempts. Green and Sydnee Simmons each had four kills in the second and Lydia Miller totaled four.
Much like the first two sets, the third was heavily contested with 12 ties and five lead changes. With the score tied, 18-18, Black Hills State stole the momentum and finished the set with a 7-1 run and its first set. The Yellow Jackets won the final two sets for a 3-2 match win.
The Griffins finished hitting .236 with 52 kills, 26 assists, 62 digs and 9 blocks.
Green, Miller and Simmons finished with double digit kills. Green totaled 18, Miller 14 and Simmons 12. Katie Jacox recorded 21 assists and Aggie Roese-Olsen recorded 20. Hannah Stearman led the team with 18 digs.
The Griffins are on the road next weekend at Colorado Mesa on Friday and Western Colorado on Saturday.
