Ogden—The Westminster men's indoor track and field team set nine top 10 records and 16 personal records at the Weber State Winter Open.
Tony Nickerson set the pace with a new program record in the Mile.
The team recorded three top three finishes.
Aiden Urban came in second in the 400m (50.79). Junior
Tony Nickerson finished third in the mile (4:25.76). Freshmen
Cam Bacarella and
Zach Stanton finished third in the 800m (2:07.17) and triple jump (40'3.25") respectively.
Nickerson and junior
DJ Matthews recorded the fastest and second fastest mile time in program history. Nickerson finished nearly seven seconds ahead of the 2011 time and Matthews finished just shy of five seconds ahead.
Urban's 400m time ranks seventh all-time. The team of Bacarella, senior
Ryan Murphy, Nickerson and Urban recorded a 4x400 relay time that ranks ninth (3:34.94).
Six top 10 records were set in filed events. Sophomore Tyler Shea set a new program record in the weight throw with a mark of 13.47m. Stanton set marks that rank fifth in the long jump (5.75m) and the triple jump (12.27m). Katona's weight throw mark ranks seventh (12.15m) and junior Max Mertz ranks eight all-time in the long (5.62m).
The Griffins next meet will be the BYU Invitational January 9-11.
