Volleyball Falls In Three To Mavericks

SALT LAKE CITY--The Westminster women's volleyball team (3-17, 0-12 RMAC) fell in straight sets (22-15, 20-25. 16-25) to Colorado Mesa (12-8, 8-4 RMAC) on Friday.

The Griffins battled fiercely with the Mavericks through the first and second sets with 15 ties and six lead changes. The Griffins took the lead in the first set, 4-3, and led for 17 points before the Mavericks took the lead back, 14-13. Westminster kept within a few points and tied the set, 21-21, but were unable to regain the lead before dropping the first set, 22-25.

The second set was a back and forth battle with 11 ties and lead changes. Westminster took a 18-16 lead with a 5-point run late in the second set only to see Colorado Mesa regain the lead with a 5-point run of its own and finish the set out, 25-20.

With momentum on their side, the Mavericks finsihed the final set for the match, 25-16.

Lydia Miller and Audrey Green led the team with 10.5 and 10 points respectively. Kerak Dekanich finished hitting .417 with six kills on 12 attempts.

Katie Jacox recorded 18 assist and Aggie Roese-Olsen recorded 14 assists for 1009 career assists at Westminster and ranks fifth all time.

Hannah Stearman recorded 17 digs andmoved to fifth all time in digs at Westminster.

The Griffins are back on the court against Western Colorado University Saturday at 4 pm.
