Westminster Falls to Chadron State in Five Sets

CHADRON, Neb. - Westminster women's volleyball pushed Chadron State to five sets, but ultimately lost 3-2 (25-19, 22-25, 17-25, 25-22, 14-16) to the Eagles on Friday night at the Chicoine Center. 

The Griffins won the opening set behind a pair of dominant scoring stretches, outscoring the Eagles 8-1 after initially falling behind 5-0, and then scored seven straight points to take a 15-9 lead. The teams traded points and the set ended with two aces from Westminster's Lydia Miller. Miller led Westminster with four kills in the set. 

Westminster dropped the second and third sets, but won the fourth to force the fifth set. In the fourth set, the Griffins jumped out to an 8-4 lead and stretched their advantage to nine points at 21-12. The Eagles pulled to within five at 24-19, but the Griffins put the set away with a kill by Ketrah Dekanich, here fifth of the set. 

In the final set, Chadron State scored the first four points. Westminster responded by scoring five of the next six and the set was knotted at 5-5. Neither team led by more than two points for the rest of the set. Tied at 14, Chadron State scored two straight to take the set and the match. 

Audrey Green led the Griffins with 17 kills. Miller pitched in 11 and Dekanich finished with 10. Miller also finished with four aces. 

Westminster outblocked Chadron State 10-8, led by Katie Culver's six. Green had five and Amber Lamborn had two. 

With the loss, Westminster falls to 3-15 overall and 0-10 in the RMAC. Chadron State improves to 12-5 overall, 6-3 in the RMAC.

The Griffins finished their weekend trip tomorrow night at Metropolitan State University - Denver. The match will be streamed on the RMAC Network
