COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—Westminster's men's basketball team (4-7, 2-5 RMAC) were defeated by the UCCS Mountain Lions (8-5, 5-2 RMAC) to finish the weekend.
Brandon Warr scored the opening basket of the game and Westminster led for nearly 11 minutes until UCCS took the lead with a 12-2 run just under nine minutes left in the half. Westminster finished the half after
Jake Connor hit a pair of free throws to finish the half.
Westminster took the lead back after making a 10-0 run seven minutes into the second half. Westminster's lead lasted less than a minute as a pair of treys regained the lead for UCCS.
The Griffins came within two points, with 6 minutes remaining, but UCCS hit two threes and went 11-12 from the charity strip to win the game, 82-74.
Westminster finished the night shooting 43.3 percent from the field, making 26-60 from the field and 7-26 from beyond the arc, and 15-18 from the free-throw line.
Brandon Warr led the Griffins with 20 points.
Jai Jai Ely and
Jake Connor put up double-digit points. Ely scored 16 and Connor scored 15.
Jacob McCord pulled down nine rebounds, Ely grabbed seven and Alec Monoson had six.
The Griffins are host to Chadron State and MSU Denver on Friday and Saturday next week.
