SALT LAKE CITY – Westminster College Athletics, men's lacrosse head coach
Mason Goodhand and the Hearn family are pleased to honor the legacy of Westminster Men's Lacrosse Alumnus Matt Hearn ('14) through the establishment of the Matt Hearn Memorial Lacrosse Scholarship. Matt passed away in July 2017 due to a rock climbing accident in Salt Lake City, Utah. Matt was a leader on and off the field and a beloved member of our campus community.
"Matt came to us from the lacrosse hotbed of Baltimore and brought a passion for the sport and a selfless attitude to the squad," Goodhand said. "He quickly established himself as a leader on the field and a loyal friend when off it. This scholarship fund is our way of creating a lasting remembrance of this young man, his family and the impact he had on all around him when he became a Griffin."
The men's lacrosse program will also honor Hearn during the alumni events of Westminster Weekend in the fall and during the spring season. "Our captains have asked Matt's teammates if they could honor Matt this season," Goodhand added. "We will use the upcoming alumni weekend to connect these groups and remember the fine young man who once wore jersey 34."
A memorial service for Matt will be held on the Westminster College campus on Friday, August 4, from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Kim T. Adamson Alumni House, 1770 South 1200 East. It will include an open house for friends, family and colleagues, with a program celebrating his life, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
