Women’s Basketball Notebook: Western State & Mesa

Women Hit Road for Final Time This Season
The Westminster women's basketball team will spend the weekend on the road for the final time of the season this weekend. The Griffins play at Western State Colorado on Friday in Gunnison, Colo. They will then visit Colorado Mesa on Saturday in Grand Junction, Colo. Both games will tip at 5:30 p.m. MST.
 
Both games of the weekend trip will be broadcast live on the RMAC Network with the host school producing the content. The RMAC Network is available at RMACsports.tv and is optimized for viewing all mobile devices. Live stats will also be available during each game and links for all live features can be found at WestminsterGriffins.com/live.
 
About the Griffins
Westminster will make its final road trip at 7-12 overall this season and looking to turn around a streak with losses in seven of their past eight games. They are 5-10 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action and sit in the 12th position. The Griffins are 4-7 in road games.
 
The Griffins are scoring 60.2 points per game and they are shooting 38.5 percent from the field. They make 7.1 3-pointers per game to rank fourth in the RMAC and are shooting 31.7 percent from beyond the arc. The team is second in the conference in foul shooting at 75.7 percent at the stripe.
 
Sydnee Taylor leads the Griffins in scoring at 10.7 points per game. Aubrie Vale is averaging 9.7 points per game while Denise Gonzalez is at 8.5 points per game. Vale leads the team with 30 made 3-pointers and she is tied with Sicilee Williams by shooting 87.5 percent at the foul line.
 
Westminster is giving up 66.3 points per game with opponents shooting 41.2 percent from the field. The opposition connects at 33.5 percent from three and the Griffins grab 34.9 rebounds per game. Westminster is ninth in the RMAC at 11.3 assists per game and they record 6.7 steals per outing.
 
Vale has a team-leading 111 rebounds and 55 assists. Taylor is second on the team with 74 rebounds and 25 makes from deep. Gonzalez has a team-best 34 steals and is fourth in the RMAC at 1.8 steals per game.
 
From Way Downtown
The Griffins continue to shoot the ball well from beyond the arc by making 7.1 threes per game to rank fourth in the RMAC. They are seventh in the conference by making 31.7 percent from deep. The team has made at least six threes in all but three games this season and have gone for seven-plus in 12 games.
 
Road Warriors
The Griffins will make its final road trip of the season this weekend where they will have played 11 of 15 games away from home. After this weekend, the team will have traveled over 9,300 lad miles this season to play 16 games away from home including exhibition and neutral site games. The team is 4-8 in all countable games away from home this season.
 
Solid First Year
Sydnee Taylor currently leads the Griffins in scoring at 10.7 points per game and she is tied for the team lead with 10 games scoring in double figures. Taylor has led the Griffins in scoring during four games this season with a pair of 20-point performances. She is shooting 40.4 percent from the field and 34.2 percent from beyond the arc with 25 makes. Taylor is second on the team with 74 rebounds while adding 29 assists and 16 steals.
 
Vale's Value
Aubrie Vale is second on the team in scoring at 9.7 points per game and she has scored in double figures 10 times. She has tallied one 20-point outing and been the team's leading scorer in five games. Vale leads the Griffins with 111 rebounds, 55 assists, and 28 steals. She has three double-doubles this season and shoots 35.4 percent from the floor and 31.3 percent from three. She needs 14 points to become the 27th player in school history to reach 500 career points as a Griffin.
 
Take the Rock
Denise Gonzalez is scoring 8.5 points per game to rank third on the team. She leads the Griffins with 34 steals and is fourth in the RMAC at 1.8 steals per game. Gonzalez has at least one steal in all but two game this season with multiple steals in a game 12 times. She currently ranks 24th in team history with 74 steals during her two seasons with the Griffins.

• Western State enters Friday's game at 5-15 overall and 2-5 at home.
• The Mountaineers are 4-12 in RMAC play to sit 13th in the conference race.
