Women's Basketball play Concordia in Irvine, California

Westminster Travel to Concordia Univeristy Irvine

The Westminster women's basketball team will travel to Irvine, California, to play Concordia University Irvine on Friday.  Concordia is a member of the PacWest Conference at the NCAA Division II level.  The game is scheduled to tip off at 2 p.m. PST.

About the Griffins
Westminster is in its third year as a member of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and at the NCAA Division II level. Last year the Griffins finished ninth in the RMAC standings with a 11-15 overall and 9-13 RMAC record.  The Griffins went 6-6 at home, 5-8 away, and 0-1 at neutral venue.  
 
Seven players return from the 2016-17 team.  Each player played in at least three games for the Griffins.

Sydnee Taylor led the Griffins in points and blocks last year.  Denise Gonzalez led the team in steals and was the third leading scorer for the Griffins in 2016-17.  

Westminster opponents averaged 64.15 points per game and shot 38.8 percent from the floor.  The Griffins averaged averaged 60.69 points per game shooting 38.8 percent from the floor.

The Griffins were picked tenth, tied with Colorado Christian University, in the RMAC Preseason Coaches Poll.
 
Week in Review: Griffins at USU
The Griffins traveled to Logan and played Utah State University on November 4.  The Griffins started the game strong outshooting the Aggies 44.83 percent to 43.33.  At half time the Griffins held a slight lead on the Aggies, 35-33.  The Aggies applied a high press in the second half and were successful in stealing the ball 10 times and outscoring the Griffins 39-20.  The final score was 72-55 for the Aggies.

Sydnee Taylor had 20 points to lead the team in scoring and nine rebounds.  Gonzalez and Elsie Carpenter each had nine points and Hannah anderl had eight points.  Sicilee Williams led the team with four assists.

The next two games for the women's team will be in Pueblo, Colorado, on Friday and Saturday, November 17-18.  Westminster will play Davenport on Friday and Northern State on Saturday.
