Women’s Basketball Notebook: UCCS & MSU Denver

Westminster Begins Four-Game Road Stretch
The Westminster women's basketball team begins a stretch of four straight games away from home with a pair of games in Colorado this weekend. They will play at UCCS on Friday in Colorado Springs, Colo. at 5:30 p.m. MST. The Griffins then visit MSU Denver on Saturday at 5 p.m. MST.
 
Both games of the weekend trip will be broadcast live on the RMAC Network with the host school producing the content. The RMAC Network is available at RMACsports.tv and is optimized for viewing all mobile devices. About the Griffins
Westminster heads to the trip with a 7-10 overall record and having dropped five of their past six contests. The Griffins are 5-8 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action and currently sit in the 11th spot in the 15-team league. They have gone 4-5 on the road this season.
 
The Griffins start the week scoring 61.2 points per game and they are sixth in the RMAC by making 39.3 percent from the field. The team makes 7.2 threes per game and they are fifth in the league by shooting 32.6 percent from beyond the arc. They also place second in the conference in foul shooting at 76.4 percent.
 
Sydnee Taylor leads the Griffins in scoring at 10.8points per game. Aubrie Vale is averaging 9.9 points per game while Denise Gonzalez is at 9.1 points per game. Vale leads the team with 27 made 3-pointers and she is tied with Sicilee Williams by shooting 87.5 percent at the foul line.
 
Westminster is giving up 66.1 points per game with opponents shooting 40.8 percent from the field. The opposition connects at 32.2 percent from three and the Griffins grab 34.6 rebounds per game. Westminster is ninth in the RMAC at 11.5 assists per game and they record 7.1 steals per outing.
 
Vale has a team-leading 98 rebounds and 53 assists. She is seventh in the conference with her average of 313 assists per game. Taylor is second on the team with 69 rebounds and 23 makes from deep. Gonzalez has a team-best 31 steals and is fourth in the RMAC at 1.8 steals per game.
 
Shoot the Rock
The Griffins are one of the top shooting team in the conference. They rank in the 15-team league's top six in all three shooting categories, including placing second in the conference by hitting 76.4 percent at the foul line. The Griffins are sixth in field goal percentage at 39.3 percent and fifth by making 32.6 percent from beyond the arc.
 
From Way Downtown
The Griffins continue to shoot the ball well from beyond the arc by making 7.2 threes per game to rank fourth in the RMAC. They are fifth in the conference by making 32.6 percent from deep. The team has made at least six threes in all but two game this season and have gone for seven-plus in 10 of their last 12 games.
 
Road Warriors
The Griffins will spend the next two weekends on the road where they have played nine games, including six RMAC road games – already this season. At the end of the next four games, the team will have played 11 of 15 games away from home. They start this road trip having traveled 8,528 land miles on the season with a 4-5 record in those nine games.
 
Solid First Year
Sydnee Taylor currently leads the Griffins in scoring at 10.8 points per game and she is tied for the team lead with nine games scoring in double figures. Taylor has led the Griffins in scoring during three games this season with a pair of 20-point performances. She is shooting 40.1 percent from the field and 35.4 percent from beyond the arc with 23 makes. Taylor is second on the team with 69 rebounds while adding 28 assists and 16 steals.
 
Vale's Value
Aubrie Vale is second on the team in scoring at 9.9 points per game and she has scored in double figures nine times. She has tallied one 20-point outing and been the team's leading scorer in nine games. Vale leads the Griffins with 98 rebounds and 57 assists while ranking eighth in the RMAC at 3.1 assists and 1.6 steals per game. She has a pair of double-doubles this season and shoots 36.1 percent from the floor and 31.8 percent from three.
 
Take the Rock
Denise Gonzalez is scoring 9.1 points per game to rank third on the team. She leads the Griffins with 31 steals and is fourth in the RMAC at 1.8 steals per game. Gonzalez has at least one steal in all but two game this season with multiple steals in a game 11 times. She currently ranks 24th in team history with 71 steals during her two seasons with the Griffins. That career 1.65 steals per game average is fifth-best in school history.

• UCCS enters Friday at 13-7 overall and having dropped two straight.
• The Mountain Lions are fourth in the RMAC with a 10-4 record.
• Brittany Hernandez is third in the RMAC in scoring (15.9) and rebounding (8.0).
• UCCS leads the all-time series 2-0 after sweeping both games last season.
• They won last year in Colorado Springs, 77-50.

• The Roadrunners are 8-6 in conference play to sit in the sixth position.
• Georgia Ohrdorf is seventh in the RMAC at 14.1 points per game.

• MSUD won last year's game in Denver, 62-42.
