GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Westminster women's soccer team opened Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play with a 1-0 win at Colorado Mesa on Sunday afternoon at Walker Field.
Westminster (4-1, 1-0 RMAC) responded to its first loss of the season on Tuesday with its fourth shutout of the season. They held a 5-3 edge in shots during the first half, but couldn't break through.
Than changed in the 50th minute as
Tiana Cerciello fought off her defender and gave the Griffins a lead. It was the first goal of the season for Cerciello and second career game-winner.
The Griffins would finish the afternoon with 11 shots and they were able to get six of them on frame. Colorado Mesa (2-3-1, 0-1) attempted eight shots on the day with three on goal. Westminster had a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Madison Roemer led the Griffins attack with four shots and two shots on goal. Cerciello and
Abigail Black each took two shots and put one on frame.
Breanne Empey secured the win in goal. She notched her third shutout of the season with three saves.
Westminster will now return home to play three straight games at Dumke Field. They begin the stretch by hosting Western State on Friday at 1 p.m. Tickets for that game are available at
