COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Westminster men's soccer team opened the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference season with a 3-0 loss at University of Colorado Colorado Springs on Friday night at Mountain Lion Stadium.
Westminster (1-3, 0-1 RMAC) surrendered a goal in the fourth minute when Cort Searls headed in a free kick from Jake McAllister. UCCS (2-2-1, 1-0) made it 2-0 in the 20th minute as Searls scored again when his shot deflected off the Westminster keeper and into the goal.
The game's final tally came in the 80th minute as Jake Demerath tapped in a shot following a deflection in traffic.
The Griffins were outshot in the contest 20-7, but they were able to get three of their chances on goal while only allowing UCCS four shots on goal. Each team took a pair of corner kicks and Westminster was whistled for the lone offsides of the night.
Jaden Olsen led Westminster with two shots attempts while
Andrew Clayton,
Cristian Alfaro, and
Matthew Warne had the team's shots on goal.
Max Medley made three saves in goal in taking the defeat.
