DENVER – The Westminster men's soccer team dropped a third straight game with a 3-1 loss at MSU Denver on Sunday afternoon in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action.
Westminster (1-4, 0-2 RMAC) fell behind in the 13th minute when Josh Belfrage converted a penalty kick following a Griffin foul. MSU Denver (3-2-1, 1-0-1) took a 2-0 lead into the halftime break following a goal from Sergio Carvajal in the 43rd minute.
The home side would open a 3-0 advantage in the 50th minute after Dimitri Ney scored from just inside the penalty area.
The Griffins were able to pull one back in the 51st minute as
Jaden Olsen took a shot from outside the box following a failed clear from the Roadrunners. Olsen put the attempt away for the first goal of his career.
Although the Griffins were outshot in the game 21-5, they had chances in the second half and all five of their attempts were on goal. MSUD had a 6-1 edge in corner kicks and the teams combined to commit 28 fouls.
Sean Lyne took the loss in goal with four saves.
Westminster will head home to play a pair of conference games at Dumke Field next weekend. They host Colorado Mesa on Friday at 3:30 p.m. and tickets for the game are available at
