Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Dixie Snaps Griffins' Winning Streak with Late Goal

SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster women's soccer team saw its season-opening three-game winning streak come to an end with a 1-0 loss to Dixie State on Tuesday evening at Dumke Field.

In a fairly event game, Dixie State (2-3) found the game-winner in the 86th minute when Darian McCloy redirected a free kick from Montana Hadley into the goal. It was the first goal allowed by the Griffins (3-1) this season and snapped their consecutive minutes without allowing a goal at 292 minutes.

Westminster had its two best chances in the first half, including a shot on frame from McKellogg Kellogg in the fifth minute that was delivered on a free kick from 45 yards away.

Dixie State had a slim 7-5 advantage in total shots with Westminster putting three of its chances on goal. The Griffins also took four corner kicks and nearly scored on one in the 88th minute as Emily Pascua headed one at the keeper.

The loss snaps the Griffins school-record six-game winning streak dating back to last season and their three-game home winning streak.

Tiana Cerciello attempted two of the Griffins' five shots. Breanna Empey suffered the loss in goal with four saves.

Westminster will now turn its attention to conference play as they play at Colorado Mesa on Sunday in the RMAC opener.
