KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Playing their first-ever Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference game, the Westminster women's lacrosse team picked up at 20-12 win at Rockhurst on Sunday evening at Bourke Field.

Westminster (1-1, 1-0 RMAC) scored twice in the game's opening minute as they raced out to an early 6-1 advantage. After
Kira Heiden extended the lead to 8-2 with 13:45 to play in the first half, Rockhurst (2-3, 0-1) started the chip away. The Hawks would score with four seconds left in the half to send the game to intermission with the Griffins leading 10-6.

It was Rockhurst that scored the opening tally of the second half before Westminster took charge.
Kira Heiden scored back-to-back goals to spark a five goal run that ended with the Griffins leading 15-7 with 13:29 remaining. The Hawks couldn't get closer than six the rest of the game and
Morgan Bakarich sealed the historic win with consecutive goals in the final seven minutes.

Heiden had a career-day for the Griffins with seven goals and nine points. Her seven goals are tied for fifth-most in a game team history. She put 10 of her 12 shots on goal and had two draw controls and one ground ball.

Bakarich would add four goals and one assist in the win as she put all five of her shots on cage.
Madison Ingman notched three goals and an assist while Hannah Carter went for two goals and two assists. The Griffins also got two goals each from
Abby Sebastian and
Katie Adams.

Westminster held a 32-31 edge in shots and they put 30 of those chances on cage. They claimed 21 of 34 raw controls and went 15 of 20 in clearing chances.

Taylor Hekking earned her first career win in goal with 12 saves in 52 minutes.
Caitlyn Laffey made her Griffin debut with two saves.

Hannah Weisbod led the Hawks with three goals and four points. She took 10 shots and had four draw controls. Â Leena Nabulsi suffered the loss in cage allowing five goals in just over six minutes.
