The Westminster women's lacrosse team is off the Missouri to play a pair of Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference games. The Griffins will open their trip at Rockhurst on Sunday in Kansas City, Mo. at 4 p.m. MT in their first-ever RMAC contest. The trip concludes in St. Charles, Mo. on Tuesday against No. 3 Lindenwood at 6 p.m. MT.

COVERING THE GRIFFINS

ABOUT THE GRIFFINS
Westminster will return to action after dropping a 16-13 decision at Whittier College on February 20. The Griffins took 31 shots in the game and they put 26 of them on goal. They were 14 of 20 in clearing attempts and had 15 draw controls to 16 by Whittier.
 
ON OFFENSE
Kira Heiden led the attack in the opener with six goals on seven shots. Katie Adams scored four goals and took a team-high 10 shots. Madison Ingman had the team's other three goals and tallied two assists to finish with five points. Kathleen Hendershott led the team with three assists.
 
ON DEFENSE
The Griffins allowed 16 goals in the loss and they surrendered 30 shots to the Poets. They forced 20 turnovers and were credited with 13 caused turnovers. Westminster picked up 22 ground balls. Annelise Preite led the Griffins with four caused turnovers while Madison Ingman and Katie Adams had three apiece. Adams led the team with six ground balls.
 
IN CAGE
Taylor Hekking made the start in goal, taking over for her sister Makenzie who had started every game the past four seasons. Hekking made 10 saves in the loss and posted a .385 save percentage.
 
STREAKING
With six goals at Whittier, Kira Heiden extended her streak of consecutive games with a goal to 26 straight. That is the second-longest streak in team history. She has recorded a point in 27 straight outings to rank as they fourth-longest span.
 
NEARING 100 POINTS
With six points in the loss to Whittier, Heiden moved into sixth-place in school history with 95 career points. She is seventh all-time with 73 career goals and her 22 assists rank eighth in school history. Heiden also ranks ninth with 118 shots and seventh with 99 shots on goal. Her 75 draw controls are the fourth-most by a Griffin.
 
MORE HEIDEN NOTES
With her six goal on seven shot performance at Whittier, Heiden earned RMAC Offensive Player of the Week honors on February 23. She became the first Griffin to win a weekly award from the conference and did so in the first week the award was given this season.
 
HOLD OPPONENTS UNDER 10
The Griffins started the 2016 season having won 45 consecutive games when holding the opposition under 10 goals in a game. In the seven previous season they have only lost one time – 4-3 vs. Chapman on February 13, 2010 – when they hold the opposition under 10 goals.
 
RMAC PRESEASON POLL
Westminster was picked to finish fifth in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference according to a poll of the league coaches that was released on January 21. The Griffins received 22 points in the poll to place fifth in the eight-team poll. Lindenwood is the preseason pick to win the RMAC with 49 points and seven of the eight first-place votes. Lindenwood's Jordyn Constance was the Preseason Player of the Year.
 
LOOKING AHEAD
Westminster will complete their season-opening road swing on March 19 with a game at Brigham Young. The game will count as an exhibition for the Griffins and will begin at 6 p.m. MT.
