SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster men's lacrosse team concluded a four game in six days stretch with a 13-10 win over Arizona State on Thursday at Dumke Field in an exhibition game.
 
"This was not our best day, but considering our fatigue from the long week we will take the win," Westminster head coach Mason Goodhand said.
 
Westminster scored the first three goals of the game and maintained that lead the rest of the contest. They would eventually push the advantage to 13-6 with 8:54 to play before Arizona State scored the game's final four goals.
 
"We were fortunate ASU rested their first-line players ahead of their game at BYU on Saturday," Goodhand added. "I completely agree with that strategy and was impressed by their depth and young talent."
 
The Griffins took 37 shots on the day with 20 of them on cage. They limited ASU to 24 shots – 16 on goal – and forced the Sun Devils into 23 turnovers. Westminster was 17 of 19 on clearing chances and won the ground ball battle, 24-21.
 
Cole Flinders and Brian Dejesus scored three goals apiece to lead the Griffin attack. Flinders added an assists for a team-best four points. Josh Holland, Dalton Tuor, and Troy Vance all scored twice in the win. Dominic Conti also scored a goal for the Griffins.
 
Theo Davis had seven faceoff wins in 14 attempts and he picked up three ground balls. Grant Phillips and Daniel Lier had three caused turnovers apiece. Philip Cannell made four saves in cage and Ian Sime made two stops.
 
"We also got some reps for our young guys," Goodhand commented. "It was great to see some freshmen in the scoring column."
 
Arizona State got a pair of goal from both Henry Griffith and Patrick Haviland to lead the team. Trevor Driscoll went 12 of 24 in faceoffs with three ground balls.
 
The Griffins will now turn their attention to Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play as they close the season with seven straight league games. They will face Rockhurst in the first of back-to-back games with the Hawks on March 19 at Falcon Stadium on the Air Force Academy campus in Colorado Springs, Colo.
