SILVER CITY, N.M. – The Westminster men's basketball team extended its winning streak to five games when
Jordan Pryor hit an 80-footer as time expired for a 74-71 win at Western New Mexico on Saturday night in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action.

It looked like Westminster (13-8, 9-8 RMAC) was going to win when
Casey Evans hit a jumper from the left side with 8.9 seconds to play. Western New Mexico (1-21, 1-16) tied the game with a layup by Willie McCray with 1.1 on the clock.

After a Griffin timeout, Pryor took the inbounds pass inside the opposite foul line and threw it at the far basket. The ball hit the backboard and fell through the rim for the winner. The play was reviewed by the officials and confirmed as a winner.

Zerrion Payton kept the Griffins in position to win the game by scoring a career high 22 points on 7 of 10 shooting. He made all six of his free throw attempts and totaled seven assists and four rebounds.

The Griffins shot 44.8 percent from the field in the game and they hit 7 of 22 from beyond the arc, including the winner. They also hit 15 of 16 at the foul line and had a 34-25 edge in rebounds. The Mustangs shot 43.4 percent from the field in the loss.

Brandon Warr added 16 points for the Griffins with seven rebounds. Evans scored 13 points and Pryor finished with six.

WNMU had four players score in double figures as they looked to snap a five-game losing skid. Adam Kesler led the team with 19 points.

Westminster will remain in the road next weekend as they play two games in South Dakota. The trip begin at South Dakota Mines on Friday at 7:30 p.m. MT.
