ABOUT WESTMINSTERWestminster heads into the final game of the season at 11-14 overall and 8-13 in RMAC games. They are currently tied for 10th in the conference standings and will finish no worse than 11th in their first year in the conference. The Griffins are 4-8 in road games this season, but are winners in three of the last four.
The Griffins are currently 13th in the RMAC by scoring 58.9 points per game. They shoot 38.7 percent from the field and are second in the conference by making 73.2 percent from the foul line. The team is making 6.2 3-pointers per game and they shoot 31.3 percent from beyond the arc.
The Griffins are holding the opposition to 61.1 points per game and 38.7 percent shooting. Westminster is fourth in the RMAC by allowing just 29.0 percent shooting from three and they force 12.9 turnovers per game while blocking 2.72 shots.
Aubrie Vale has come on down the stretch and now leads the team in scoring at 10.8 points per game. She is 22nd in the RMAC in scoring while placing 13th in the conference by making 1.7 treys per game.
Denise Gonzalez averages 9.8 points per night and leads the team with 85 assists and 38 steals.
Jessica Sorensen leads the team with 152 rebounds and she is third in the conference by getting 3.3 offensive rebounds per game.
Mika Pinner has 130 rebounds and is fifth in the RMAC by averaging 1.8 blocked shots per contest.
LOOKING BACKA tough third quarter led to a 73-55 loss to Regis last Friday. The Griffins were outscored 22-10 in the third quarter and 42-29 in the second half. Regis shot 54.2 percent from the field and had a 52-24 edge in the paint. Natalie parsons led the Griffins with 17 points and
Aubrie Vale added 10.
The Griffins closed the home schedule with a 71-62 win over Chadron State on Saturday. They scored 27 points in the fourth quarter – a season high – and used 18 second chance points to earn the victory. Westminster made nine 3-pointers in the game. Vale led the team with 18 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists. Parsons went for 15 points and four triples.
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION
•Colorado Mesa – The Mavericks enter the final game of the season at 17-8 overall and 14-7 in league play. They are still in play for a home game in the opening round of the RMAC Tournament. CMU is 10-2 at home this season and they have won six of their last seven games overall. Bryanna Adams is second in the RMAC by scoring 16.9 points per game.
SERIES NOTESColorado Mesa is 4-0 all-time against the Griffins and 1-0 in Grand Junction. The Mavericks defeated the Griffins 60-40 on December 5 in the Behnken Field House. That was the first conference game of the season for each team.
500 GAMES PLAYEDWestminster played the 500th game in program history on January 2 against South Dakota Mines. The Griffins won 308 times in those 500 outings with nine 20-win seasons. This is the 17th season of women's basketball at Westminster and the program has gone 314-200 in that time to record a .611 winning percentage.
FRESHMAN SENSATIONDenise Gonzalez has taken over point guard duties from the start of the season and she currently second on the team in scoring at 9.8 points per game. Gonzalez is sixth in the conference by averaging 3.4 assists per game while ranking 16th at 1.5 steals per game. Her 85 assists are the 22nd-most in school history for a single season.
DEFENSIVE PRESENCEMika Pinner has recorded a team-best 43 blocked shots and has had multiple blocks in a game 13 times. She currently ranks fifth in the RMAC by blocking 1.8 shots per game. Her 43 blocks are the second-most in a season in team history. Pinner is fourth in school history with 72 career blocks and her 1.36 blocks per game is on pace to establish a new school record.
FINISHING STRONGAubrie Vale has scored in double figures during 10 of the team's previous 12 games and she currently leads the team in scoring at 10.8 points per game. For the season, vale has scored in double figures 15 times with two 20-point outings. During the past 12 games, Vale is averaging 14.0 points per game and shooting 38.6 percent from beyond the arc.
RMAC SHOOTOUTThe RMAC Shootout will begin with opening round games on Tuesday at the home site of the top-four seeds. The highest remaining seed will then host the semifinals and championship game on March 4 and 5. The field of eight has already been decided with seeding still in play entering the final week of action. All of the game will be broadcast live at
