ABOUT WESTMINSTERWestminster enters the final game of the season at 14-11 overall and with a 10-11 mark in RMAC play. The Griffins are currently tied for ninth in the conference and could earn a top-8 final position. They are 5-5 on the road this season.
The Griffins rank 12th in the RMAC by scoring 72.1 points per game and they are fourth in the league by holding the opposition to 71.7 points per night. The team is shooting 44.4 percent from the field and they are third in the RMAC in holding opponents to 42.2 percent shooting. Westminster is seventh in the league by making 73.4 percent at the foul line.
Zerrion Payton leads the team in scoring, rebounding, assists, and steals. His 13.2 points per game is 24th in the RMAC and he places third in the conference at 4.4 assists. Payton has 159 rebounds with 120 coming at the defensive end.
Casey Evans is scoring 12.1 points per game and he is shooting 47.7 percent from the field.
Kenny Woodard adds 9.6 points per game coming off the bench and he is fourth in the RMAC by shooting 85.0 percent at the foul line. Marcs Bryce leads the team with 24 blocks shots while placing ninth in the RMAC at 0.96 blocks per game.
40 YEARS OF HOOPSThis season marks the 40th year of men's basketball at Westminster dating back to the 1956-57 campaign. They played the 1,000 game in school history on November 27 against The Master's. Westminster has compiled a record of 640-382 for a .626 winning percentage.
LOOKING BACKWestminster had its losing streak extended to three straight with a 76-69 loss to Regis on Friday night. Regis made 10 threes and got 30 points from Jarrett Brodbeck in the win.
Zerrion Payton led the Griffins with 17 points, eight assists, and seven rebounds.
The Griffins then closed the home schedule with a 77-62 win over Chadron State on Saturday. They held CSC to 33.3 percent shooting and outscored the Eagles 34-12 in the paint.
Jordan Pryor scored 15 points off the bench to lead the team in his final collegiate home game.
ABOUT COLORADO MESAThe Mavericks enter Friday at 19-8 overall and 15-6 in conference play. They have secured a home game in the opening round of the RMAC Tournament. CMU is 10-2 at home this season and have won eight straight in Brownson Arena. Ryan Stephan leads the RMAC in scoring at 26.1 points per game and is the league's player of the week after scoring 45 against Regis on Saturday.
SERIES NOTESThe Griffins and Mavericks have split four meetings all-time, alternating wins and losses each time. Colorado Mesa leads 1-0 in games played in Grand Junction. Westminster beat the Mavericks, 68-61, on December 5 in Salt Lake City in the RMAC opener for each team.
STAT SHEET STUFFERZerrion Payton is having one of the best all-around seasons in school history. The junior guard currently leads the team in scoring, rebounding, assists, and steals. His 13.2 points per game rank 24th in the RMAC and he has scored in double figures 17 times with three 20-point outings. Payton also sits third in the conference at 4.4 assists and second at 1.8 steals per game. His 6.4 rebounds per night is the 11th-best total in the league.
EVANS SHINESCasey Evans is second on the team in scoring at 12.1 points per game. The junior is making 47.7 percent from the field and has gone 30 of 80 (37.5 percent) from beyond the arc. Evans has scored at least 20 points in a game four times this season and he had a career high 23 points in the win over CSU-Pueblo on January 30. Last month, Evans became the first Griffin men's basketball player to be named to the RMAC All-Academic First Team.
PRYOR'S MIRACULOUS SHOTJordan Pryor had a moment he will never forget when he hit a game-winning 75-foot shot as time expired in a Griffins 74-71 win at Western New Mexico on February 6. The shot was No. 1 on ESPN SportsCenter Top 10 Plays during the 9 p.m. MT edition on February 8. He has also been featured on the local NBC affiliate, KSL, and the clip shown on every local sports broadcast. Pryor is 13th in team history with 950 points for his career.
RMAC SHOOTOUTThe RMAC Shootout will begin with opening round games on Tuesday at the home site of the top-four seeds. The highest remaining seed will then host the semifinals and championship on March 4 and 5. All of the games will be broadcast live at
