ALAMOSA, Colo. – The Westminster women's basketball team overcame a slow start to pull away for an 84-75 win at Adams State on Friday afternoon in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action.

Westminster (5-4, 3-2 RMAC) trailed 23-14 early in the second quarter after Adams State (1-8, 0-6) capped a 17-2 run with 10 straight points. The Griffins answered with a 16-5 run that finished with a
Riley Reidhead 3-pointer to put the team in front 30-28 with 3:11 to play in the first half.

"This is a great road win for us," Westminster head coach
Shelley Jarrard said. "I knew this was going to be tough being on the road a second straight week and dealing with finals."

The Griffins took a 36-31 lead into halftime and never trailed in the second half. They maintained a double-digit advantage until the closing seconds and secured the win by hitting 7 of 10 at the foul line in the final 3:50 of play.

"We couldn't hold on to a possession early and the turnovers really hurt us," Jarrard added. "It took us some time to get going against their zone."

This was the second time this season the Griffins shot 50 percent or better as they made 52.9 percent from the field to notch their highest scoring output of the year. The team hit another nine 3-pointers and a 47.4 percent clip while making 84.0 percent at the foul line.

Sydnee Taylor led four Griffins in double figures with 18 points. She made 6 of 9 field goal attempts and adding a pair of triples. Taylor also led the Griffins with five rebounds and tallied one assist and one steal.

Westminster won the rebounding battle, 34-26, and they scored 11 points from nine offensive rebounds. They recorded 20 assists and 27 made baskets to overcome 21 turnovers. Adams Sate shot 44.1 percent and committed 13 turnovers.

Denise Gonzalez added 12 points and four assists for the Griffins.
Aubrie Vale and
Lancee Whetman each had 10 points. Vale also had four assists and Reidhead led the team with six assists.

Brianna Reyna led three Grizzlies in double figures with 21 points. Lauren McDonald added 14 points and Cydney McHenry scored 11.
