Wildcats Defeat Griffins in Final Exhibition

OGDEN, Utah – The Westminster women's basketball team completed its third and final exhibition game of the season with an 81-68 loss at Weber State on Tuesday night at the Dee Events Center.
 
Westminster shot 46.4 percent from the field in the game and hit 9 of 18 from beyond the arc. They were slowed by 21 turnovers and 49.2 percent shooting from Weber State (4-0).
 
"Turnovers have been an issue for us this season and they were again tonight," Westminster head coach Shelley Jarrard said after the game. "We still have a lot of positives we can take away from tonight's game against a good, athletic Weber State team."
 
The Griffins got 39 points off the bench on Tuesday, including a game-high 16 from Max Shelley. Sicilee Williams had nine points and Janessa Aukward added eight. Lancee Whetman led the team with eight rebounds off the bench.
 
"Max, Sicilee, and Janessa gave us a great scoring boost off the bench," Jarrard stated. "Our new players and getting more comfortable in our system and I'm excited about the depth of this team."
 
Weber State held a 19-11 lead after the first quarter and the Wildcats were able to extend the advantage to 30-27 at halftime. Each teams scored 41 points in the second half with the Griffins taking the fourth quarter, 22-21.
 
Sydnee Taylor shot 6 of 8 and scored 14 points in defeat. Aubrie Vale added 10 points while Denise Gonzalez had five assists.
 
Weber State assisted on 21 of their 31 made field goals and committed just 11 turnovers. Emily Drake led the Wildcats with 25 points. Yarden Danan and Tyschal Blake added 13 and 12 respectively.
 
The Griffins will close out the non-conference season on Friday when they host Dixie State in the Behnken Field House. The game will tip at 2 p.m. MST with tickets available at WestminsterGriffins.com/tickets.
