SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster women's basketball team opened their home schedule with a 69-58 win over in-state rival Dixie State on Friday afternoon in the Behnken Field House.

Westminster (2-2) shot 50 percent from the floor and from beyond the arc to overcome 21 turnovers. They distributed 15 assists and collected 30 rebounds. On the defensive end, the Griffins held Dixie State (0-6) to 33.9 percent shooting and forced 20 turnovers for 23 points.

The Griffins got a boost from the bench as the Westminster reserves outscored the Trailblazers bench 26-3.
Sicilee Williams led that effort with a team-high 15 points, including 3 of 4 from three.
Max Shelley added nine points off the bench and they both grabbed five rebounds.

Westminster led the entire game and had an 8-0 run late in the first quarter that led them to an 18-10 lead after 10 minutes. Dixie got within three at the 2:19 mark of the second quarter before the Griffins ended with five straight points to lead 33-25 at intermission.

The visiting side capped a 17-11 third quarter with the final seven points of the frame and the Griffins lead was 44-42 entering the final quarter. After Dixie cut it to 46-45 with 8:17 remaining, Westminster responded with nine straight points and the game was not closer than eight the rest of the afternoon.

Aubrie Vale added 14 points for the Griffins. She led the team with seven assists and tied for the team lead with five rebounds.
Sydnee Taylor added 13 points.
Denise Gonzalez recorded six points, four assists, and four steals.

Dixie used the offensive rebound to stay in the game as they pulled in 17 offensive rebounds for 15 points. Lisa VanCampen led the visitors with 18 points and nine rebounds, including seven offensive. Shelby Kassuba added 12 points in defeat.

The Griffins will now turn to Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play. They will host Western State Colorado in the RMAC opener on December 2 at 5:30 p.m. MST in the Behnken Field House. Tickets for the game are available now at
