The Westminster women's basketball team will host a pair of home games this weekend as they begin a stretch of four of their next six games at home. The Griffins will welcomes Adams State to town on Friday before hosting Fort Lewis on Saturday.
Both of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference games will be played in the Behnken Field House. Tipoff each night is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. MT. Tickets are available at

ABOUT WESTMINSTERWestminster returns home with a 5-8 overall record and at 2-7 in RMAC action. The Griffins have dropped two straight and six of their past seven outings. They are 3-3 in home games on the year and 2-3 in home conference games.
The Griffins are scoring 56.5 points per game as a team and they shoot 37.5 percent from the floor. They average 6.0 made 3-pointers per contest and shoot 28.9 percent from beyond the arc. The team is allowing 60.2 points per night – fifth in the RMAC – with opponents shooting 38.6 percent from the field.
Denise Gonzalez is the Griffins top scorer at 11.0 points per game. She is shooting 30.2 percent from the floor and also leads the team with 46 assists and 25 steals.
Natalie Parsons ranks second on the team by scoring 10.5 points per game and with 31 assists.
Jessica Sorensen and
Mika Pinner are tied for the team lead by grabbing 5.8 rebounds per night. Sorensen has a team-best 40 offensive rebounds and Pinner leads the squad with 27 blocked shots.
LOOKING BACKUCCS completed a season sweep of the Griffins with a 77-50 win on Friday.
Denise Gonzalez led Westminster with 16 points, nine rebounds and five assists. The Griffins made just 30.0 percent of their field goal attempts and were 4 of 23 from beyond the arc. UCCS made 50.8 percent from the field and made 8 of 18 from three.
Westminster dropped a second straight game by falling 62-42 at MSU Denver on Saturday night. Gonzalez would finish the game with a team high 13 points for her eighth double-digit scoring effort of the season. She made three triples in the game and had two assists and three steals.
Mika Pinner added 12 points, six rebounds, and three blocked shots.
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION
•Adams State – The Grizzlies will come to town at 2-10 overall and 1-8 in RMAC action. They have lost five consecutive games and are just 1-3 on the road this season. ASU averages 57.5 points per game while allowing 75.7. Lena Jaycox leads the team by scoring 13.8 points per game and she is fifth in the MRAC by getting 2.2 steals per game.
•Fort Lewis – The Skyhawks start the week with an 8-6 overall record and 4-5 in RMAC play. They were swept in two road games last weekend and have gone just 2-4 on the road during the season. FLC is second in the conference by scoring 71.2 points per game while allowing just 60.7 per night. Astrea Reed scores a team-best 11.9 points per game with Dallas Dickerson adding 10.4
SERIES NOTESWestminster has gone 1-1 all-time against Adams State, including a 66-28 win at a neutral site on November 14. The teams will meet in Salt Lake City for the first time on Friday.
The Griffins are 2-2 in four all-time meeting against Fort Lewis. The Skyhawks have won two straight matchups, including a 73-46 win in the season opener on November 13 in Durango, Colo. Westminster is 1-0 against FLC when playing at home.
500 GAMES PLAYEDWestminster played the 500th game in program history on January 2 against South Dakota Mines. The Griffins won 308 times in those 500 outings with nine 20-win seasons. The team has now played 502 games with a .614 winning percentage.
FRESHMAN SENSATIONDenise Gonzalez has taken over point guard duties from the start of the season and she currently leads the team in scoring at 11.0 points per game. That ranks 19th in the RMAC and she has scored in double figures eight times. Gonzalez is third in the conference by averaging 3.5 assists per game while ranking 12th at 1.9 steals.
DEFENSIVE PRESENCEMika Pinner has recorded at least one block in nine of the team's games this season and she had multiple blocks in eight outings. The senior is tied for second in the league at 2.1 blocks per game and with 27 total blocks. Pinner is fifth in school history with 56 career blocks and her 1.33 blocks per game is the highest in team history.
IMMEDIATE IMPACTNatalie Parsons has quickly become the focal point of the Griffin offense in her first season with the team. The senior transfer is scoring 10.5 points per game to place second on the team and she has scored in double figures six times. Parsons has twice scored 20 points in a game, including a career high 24 at Dixie State on November 24. She also ranks second on the team with 31 assists and 15 made 3-pointers.
LOOKING AHEADWestminster will play two conference road games next weekend. They visit Chadron State on January 22 and then play at Regis on January 23.
