FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Westminster women's volleyball team began the season on Friday with a pair of matches at the NSU Shark Invitational. The Griffins were defeated in four sets by Oklahoma Baptist in the morning and then fell to Embry-Riddle (Fla.) this afternoon.

After dropping the first two sets to Oklahoma Baptist, 25-14, 25-19, Westminster (0-2) claimed the third frame by a count of 27-25. They wouldn't be able to complete the comeback as OBU took the fourth set, 25-16.

The Griffins finished the match hitting .113 with 42 kills and 74 digs.
Alyse Horton led the attack with 12 kills while also posting 18 digs.
Amara Culpepper added 10 kills and two blocks. Oklahoma Baptist hit .244 in the match with 57 kills and 11 service aces.

In the afternoon match with Embry-Riddle, the Griffins ran struggled to find any offense in the 25-17, 25-19, 25-5 loss. They managed just 22 kills, but has 22 errors. Embry-Riddle (2-0) tallied 36 kills in the match and they hit .307. Culpepper paced the Griffin attack with seven kills and .429 hitting.

Westminster will also play a pair of matches on Saturday to conclude the opening weekend. They face East Central at 9:30 a.m. MT to start the day before closing out action against the tournament host, Nova Southeastern, at 5 p.m. MT. The match with NSU will be streamed live with live stats available for both matches.
