Volleyball Splits Two Matches in Florida

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Westminster women's volleyball team completed play at the NSU Shark Invitational by splitting a pair of matches on Saturday. The Griffins began the day with a three-set sweep of East Central before falling in three sets to the tournament host, Nova Southeastern, in the day's finale.
 
The Griffins (1-3) hit .184 in the first match as they racked up 34 kills while notching 13 service aces in the 25-20, 25-16, 25-19 win. That is the second-most aces for a three set match in team history and the eighth-most overall. They limited East Central (0-3) to .080 hitting and 31 kills.
 
Amara Culpepper totaled 11 kills and hit .346 in the win. Jessica Chellsen added six kills and three aces while Kate Tsourmas and Desiree Wickwar had five kills apiece. Megan Gallegos had 14 digs and three aces and Jaden Green recorded three aces.
 
The late match saw Nova Southeastern (3-0) hand the Griffins a 25-18, 25-17, 25-20 defeat. Westminster finished the match with 21 kills and hitting .047. The home Sharks tallied 39 kills while hitting .192 to complete a perfect weekend.
 
Culpepper again led the Griffin attack with seven kills in the loss. Alyse Horton added five kills with Chellsen getting four kills. Gallegos had 19 of the team's 33 digs with one ace.
 
The Griffins will return to action on Friday when they play two matches at the CSUSB Coyote Classic in San Bernardino, Calif.
