DENVER – The Westminster women's soccer team surrendered a late goal and lost at Regis University, 1-0, in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference game at the Regis Soccer Pitch on Sunday afternoon.
Westminster (7-6-1, 3-5-1 RMAC) wasn't able to get one in the net despite taking 14 shots and getting seven of them on goal. It would be a late surge from Regis (7-3-3, 3-2-3) that generated the game-winning goal for the home side.
Regis had a pair of shots in the 85th minute off target, but then in the 86th minute Sid Otto took as hot from 20 yards out that beat the Griffins keeper and gave her a second winner against the Griffins this season.
Westminster created two chances in the closing four minutes, but
Jayne Christensen has a chance saved and then
Madison Roemer headed a chance left of the post on a corner kick.
The Griffins held Regis to only one shot in the first half, but the Rangers got nine shots away after intermission and they finished the afternoon with four shots on goal. Regis had a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks and each team was called for eight fouls.
Breanna Empey suffered the loss in goal for the Griffins with three saves.
Westminster will return home for the final time of the season next weekend. They host New Mexico Highlands on Friday at 4 p.m. and then Colorado State – Pueblo on October 25 at 1 p.m. Tickets for both games are available at
