Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Griffins Sweep MSU Denver Behind 2-0 Win on Friday

DENVER – The Westminster women's soccer team completed a season sweep of MSU Denver with a 2-0 win at the Regency Athletic Complex on Friday night.

Westminster snapped a three-game winless streak and they improve to 7-5-1 on the season. They remain at 3-4-1 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play as the game didn't count towards the season standings.

Neither team had any success through the first half of play despite both teams getting a pair of shots on goal in the period. The Griffins would break through in the 75th minute on a free kick. Korral Koehler played the ball into the area where Heidi Lorschider took a touch before Maddie Klein put a shot off the right post and in for her first goal of the season.

It wouldn't take long for the Griffins to add some insurance as Megan Molumby scored following a Koehler service on a corner kick to make it 2-0 in the 79th minute. It was the second goal of the season for Molumby and the second multi-assist game of the year for Koehler.

The Griffins would finish the game with 12 shots and six on goal. They took five corner kicks and held MSU Denver (5-4-3, 2-2-3 RMAC) to just six shots. Breanna Empey made four saves to earn her first career win and shutout in goal.

Westminster will be back in action on Sunday when they look to climb up the RMAC standings with a noon game at Regis University in Denver.
