DENVER – The Westminster women's soccer team completed a season sweep of MSU Denver with a 2-0 win at the Regency Athletic Complex on Friday night.
Â
Westminster snapped a three-game winless streak and they improve to 7-5-1 on the season. They remain at 3-4-1 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play as the game didn't count towards the season standings.
Â
Neither team had any success through the first half of play despite both teams getting a pair of shots on goal in the period. The Griffins would break through in the 75th minute on a free kick.
Korral Koehler played the ball into the area where
Heidi Lorschider took a touch before
Maddie Klein put a shot off the right post and in for her first goal of the season.
Â
It wouldn't take long for the Griffins to add some insurance as
Megan Molumby scored following a Koehler service on a corner kick to make it 2-0 in the 79th minute. It was the second goal of the season for Molumby and the second multi-assist game of the year for Koehler.
Â
The Griffins would finish the game with 12 shots and six on goal. They took five corner kicks and held MSU Denver (5-4-3, 2-2-3 RMAC) to just six shots.
Breanna Empey made four saves to earn her first career win and shutout in goal.
Â
Westminster will be back in action on Sunday when they look to climb up the RMAC standings with a noon game at Regis University in Denver.
