Westminster Hosts Utah and UCLA in Final Home Games of the Season

SALT LAKE CITY – The No. 15 Westminster College women's lacrosse team plays at home for the final two times of the season this week as they welcome Utah on Friday and No. 6 UCLA on Sunday. The Utah game will begin at 5:30 p.m. with the UCLA game starting at 11 a.m. Both games will be played at Dumke Field with a Senior Day presentation taking place prior to the start of Sunday's game.

GRIFFIN NOTES
Westminster is back at Dumke Field with a 5-3 overall record after sweeping two games at the Mile High Invitational last weekend in Boulder, Colo. The Griffins knocked off then-No. 3 Michigan Club 13-10 before an 11-10 overtime victory against then-No. 8 Texas. The Griffins have won three of the last four games overall and they are 1-1 at home this season.
 
The Griffins have scored in double figures in all eight games this season and twice they have scored 20 goals in a game. They are averaging 15.25 goals per game while attempting 29.1 shots per game. The Griffins put 80.3 percent of those shots on goal while scoring on 65.2 percent of all sots on cage. They have a total of 49 assists this season while recording an assist on 40.2 percent of the total goals scored.
 
Defensively, Westminster is giving up 11.62 goals per game with the opposition taking 25.4 shots per contest. Griffin opponents have put 88.2 percent of their shots on cage and scored on 51.9 percent of those chances. They have totaled 28 assists with a 30.1 assist percentage.
 
Westminster has a 129-95 edge in draw controls for a 57.6 draw control percentage. The Griffins have picked up 179 ground balls and caused 43 turnovers.
 
OFFENSE NOTEBOOK
>Dana Barraco leads the team with 36 goals and is scoring 4.5 goals per game.
>She scored multiple goals in every game this season with at least four goals on six occasions.
>Barraco tied a school-record with eight goals in the win over Western Washington on Feb. 15.
>Barraco is also tops on the team with 17 assists.
>She has at least one assist in seven of the eight games this season.
>She tallied four helpers against Western Washington and Santa Clara.
>Barraco tied a school record with 12 points in the win over Western Washington.
>She set a school record with seven assists during a win over Alabama last season.
>Barraco enters the home stand with a team-leading 53 points.
>With 86 goals in her career, Barraco is fifth in school history.
>She needs 14 goals to become the fifth player in school history to reach the 100-goals club.
>Maggie HerrNeckar is second on the team with 24 goals and 31 points.
>She tallied five goals in the opener with Pittsburgh and also had six goals against Texas A&M.
>HerrNeckar picked up three assists in the win over Western Washington.
>She then notched two helpers against BYU.
>HerrNeckar has scored 159 goals in her career to rank second in school history.
>She is also just eight points shy of becoming just the second Griffin to reach 200 points for a career.
>Kira Heiden has contributed 23 goals to rank third on the team in that category.
>After not scoring in the opener, Heiden has scored multiple goals in each of the past seven games.
>Heiden scored a career-high five goals in the loss to BYU.
>She has twice scored four goals in a game, first versus Texas A&M and again against Utah State.
>Heiden is currently third on the team with 28 points.
>Maddie Haynes is second with seven nine this season.
>She has also scored 12 goals.
>She notched four dimes in the win over Utah State and had two against Texas.
>Kaely Kernan has scored 10 goals this season.
 
GOALIE NOTEBOOK
>Makenzie Hekking has played every minute in cage for the Griffins over the past three seasons.
>This season, Hekking has recorded 86 saves this season and is averaging 10.75 saves per game.
>She has a .480 save percentage with a 11.48 goals-against-average.
>Hekking has recorded double figures in saves four times this season.
>She had 22 stops in the season-opener against Pittsburgh.
>She would also make 19 saves against BYU.
>Hekking recorded 15 saves in the upset of then-No. 3 Michigan Club on March 28.
>For her career, Hekking has made a school-record 381 saves as she looks for 400 career stops.
 
MISCELLANEOUS NOTEBOOK
>HerrNeckar has claimed a team-best 30 ground balls this season.
>She is second in school history with 146 GBs and sits eight shy of tying Chelsea Farrell for the school record.
>Barraco is second on the team with 22 ground balls.
>Haynes has claimed a team-best 26 draw controls on the year.
>Kaely Kernan has recorded 25 draw controls in 2014.
>Kernan is the Westminster all-time leader with 115 draw controls in her career.
 
ABOUT THE OPPOSITION
>Utah visits Dumke Field at 11-1 on the season and riding a six-game winning streak.
>The Utes are the No. 1-ranked team in Division 2 of the WCLA.
>They are scoring 20.75 goals per game and have hit 20 goals in a game eight times.
>Westminster is 6-1 all-time against the Utes and 4-0 at Dumke Field.
>UCLA comes to town at 10-1 overall this season and on a nine-game winning streak.
>The Bruins are ranked sixth in this week's Division 1 WCLA poll.
