LAS VEGAS – The No. 4 Westminster women's basketball team wrapped up the Frontier Conference Las Vegas Shootout with a 58-55 win over No. 3 Vanguard (Calif.) on Saturday night at Durango High School.

Westminster (10-1) responded to their first loss of the season on Friday night by defeating Vanguard for the first time in seven all-time meetings. They were able to overcome 36.7 percent shooting and making only one of their 13 3-point attempts by forcing Vanguard (6-4) into 14 turnovers and making 21-of-28 at the foul line.

The Griffins trailed by four at halftime after Vanguard erased a seven-point deficit with a 13-1 run late in the half. The Lions held the lead until the 14:07 mark of the second half when
Jessica Sorensen put Westminster in front, 32-30. Vanguard would get the advantage back to 55-50 with 2:38 to play, only to watch the Griffins close the game with an 8-0 run for the win.

Amanda Hacking led the Griffins with a career-high 20 points on 6-of-12 shooting. The junior also pulled in 11 rebounds – five offensive – for her third double-double of the season. Hacking made eight of her nine free throw attempts and had two assists and one blocked shot.

Tia Pappas added 16 points and five assists for the Griffins with
Amy Krommenhoek scoring 15 points. The only other players to score for Westminster was Sorensen with five and
Katie Richens with two.

Maya Kenndey led Vanguard with 13 points while Riley Holsinger finished with 11.

Westminster is now off until the Frontier Conference opener on Jan. 8 against Carroll (Mont.) in the Behnken Field House.
