LAS VEGAS – One night after winning the school-record ninth straight game to start a season, the No. 4 Westminster women's basketball team fell to No. 5 Campbellsville (Ky.), 56-53, in their second of three games at the Frontier Conference Las Vegas Shootout.
Turnovers hurt Westminster (9-1) all night as their 46.5 percent shooting wasn't able to help them overcome a season-high 23 turnovers. The Griffins went 6-of-13 from beyond the arc in the game while holding Campbellsville (14-1) to 41 percent shooting. Westminster was out-rebounded 33-23 and gave up 18 offensive rebounds.
The Griffins trailed by 10 points less than four minutes into the second half and they were still behind 42-35 with just under 13 minutes to play. They mounted a 9-0 run, capped with a three-point-play from
Alli Winters, take lead 44-42 with 7:31 on the clock. Campbellsville regained the lead a few possession s later and they never gave it up in handing Westminster their first loss.
Winters finished the night with 18 points and she was 5-of-7 from beyond the arc.
Mika Pinner was the only other Griffin in double figures with 15 points.
Amanda Hacking added eight points and
Amy Krommenhoek recorded eight assists.
Kristen Jacob led four Tigers in double figures with 15 points on 7-of-11 shooting. LeeAnn Grider added 11 points, six assists and seven steals.
Westminster will close the trip to Vegas with their final non-conference game of the season on Saturday when they face No. 3 Vanguard (Calif.) at 6:30p.m. MT.
