Box Score HAVRE, Mont. – The fourth-ranked Westminster College women's basketball team won a season-best fourth straight game as they defeated No. 18 Montana State-Northern, 60-46, at Armory Gymnasium on Saturday evening.
Westminster (11-2, 5-0 Frontier) got a huge night from
Alli Blake in the win. The senior scored a career-best 29 points as she made 8-of-14 from the field while also connecting on 13 of her 15 free throw attempts. She also collected a team-leading nine rebounds.
"I am proud of this team for getting these two road wins," head coach
Shelley Jarrard said of wins tonight and last night at Great Falls (Mont.). "Tonight, we were able to survive foul trouble from our posts. Alli carried us in this game and she deserves a lot of credit for her toughness."
The Griffins made just 18 field goals in the game and shot 43.9 percent. The NAIA's leading 3-point shooting team went just 5-of-16 on Saturday, but made up for it by connecting on 73.1 percent at the foul line. Westminster limited MSU-Northern (14-3, 4-1) just 40.5 percent shooting and forced them into 18 turnovers. The Griffins scored 20 points from those opportunities and held a 28-25 edge on the boards.
No other Griffin scored in double figures with
Alli Winters finishing with 9 on 3-of-5 shooting from beyond the arc.
Tia Pappas scored seven points.
Northern got 12 points and 12 rebounds from A'Jha Edwards. Natalee Faupel added 10 points for the Sky Lights as they notched 16 points in the paint.
Westminster will now return home for three straight games, starting on Jan. 18 when they host Montana Western. The game gets off to an early start with tip slated for 2 p.m. MST in the Behnken Field House.
