Westminster Climbs Two Spots on Day Two

GREENVILLE, Tenn. – The Westminster College women's golf team moved up two positions to No. 18 after the second round of the 2012 NAIA Women's Golf National Championships on Wednesday.

Westminster posted a team score of 320 on Wednesday to give them 641 strokes over the first two rounds. The Griffins currently sit six shots behind Bethel in 17th and nine strokes behind USC-Beaufort in the 16th position. British Columbia assumed the top position after shooting a 299 on Wednesday. Savannah College of Art & Design had the round of the day with a 295 to move into second place while round one leader, Shorter, fell to third after a 308 today.

After shooting a 10-over 83 on Tuesday, Candace Dechant bounced back with a 79 on Wednesday to lead the Griffins. With an 80 on Wednesday, Jenteal Jackson has posted 158 strokes in the first two rounds and sits tied for 56th in the individual standings.

Mari Hutsi matched the 80 shot by Jackson after going 2-over on the front nine. Mikayla Williamson posted a round of 81 on Wednesday for the final counted score for the Griffins. Westminster didn't have to count the 82 shot in round two by Brandi Bork.

Westminster will begin the third round at 6:10 a.m. MDT on Thursday. They will tee off from hole No. 1 at the Link Hills Country Club.
