Box Score COLORADO SPRINGS – The Westminster College women's lacrosse team saw its chance of winning a national championship come to an end with a 13-9 loss to Towson on Friday in the semi-finals of the 2012 WCLA National Championships.
The fourth-seeded Griffins were eliminated by the No. 1-seeded Tigers in the semis for the second straight season. Westminster is now 17-6 overall this year while Towson improves to 16-0.
Westminster led the game early and with 4:23 to play in the first half they were ahead 4-3. Towson scored the final two goals of the half and carried a 5-4 advantage into halftime. The Towson lead would reach 10-6 midway through the second half and the Griffins couldn't get closer the rest of the way.
The Griffins will end the 2012 season on Saturday when they face Rhode Island in the 3rd-Place Game. The action is set to begin at 10:30 a.m. and a Westminster win would give them the best finish in school history.
