Griffins win three games at Salt Lake Classic

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 SALT LAKE CITY – The top-ranked Westminster College women's lacrosse team posted a 3-0 record at the 2012 Salt Lake Classic on Saturday at Dumke Field. Westminster defeated Wyoming in the opener, 21-6, and then claimed a 17-4 win over No. 7 UNLV. The Griffins finished the afternoon with a 21-6 win over Colorado Mines.

Westminster is now 10-1 on the season and they have gone 5-1 at home while winning four straight overall.

Chelsea Farrell had a monster day as she scored 20 goals in the three games. She matched a school record with 10 points after scoring five goals and recording five assists in the opening game against Wyoming. The WCLA Preseason Player of the Year then tied another school record with eight goals in the game versus UNLV. She also surpassed the points in a game record by adding four assists for 12 points against the Rebels. The cap the day, Farrell recorded seven goals in the win over Colorado Mines.

Sage Johnson scored 14 goals during the day. She had six goals and two assists in the opener with Wyoming. Maggie HerrNeckar scored eight goals with three against both Wyoming and Mines. Makenzie Hekking finished the afternoon with 21 saves and just 19 goals allowed in the Westminster goal.

The 21 goals scored by Westminster against Wyoming and Mines match the school record set last week against Utah Valley.

The Griffins now head east for a tournament in Chapel Hill, N.C. They will face Oakland (Mich.) on Friday and then play Loyola (Md.), Towson (Md.) and James Madison (Va.) on Saturday.
