Griffins Defeat OBU to Sweep Road Trip

Box Score SHAWNEE, Okla. – The fifth-ranked Westminster College women's basketball team completed its post-final road trip to Oklahoma with a 55-39 win over Oklahoma Baptist on Monday afternoon at Mabee Arena.

Westminster is now 10-2 on the season after going 2-0 on the road trip. The loss drops Oklahoma Baptist to 7-2.

The Griffins led 29-15 at halftime after holding OBU to 21.4 percent shooting. OBU would get within eight early in the second half, but Westminster responded with an 18-4 run to pull away. That stretch started with a pair of three-point-plays from Tia Pappas and a layup by Brooke Larsen during an 8-0 run.

Westminster shot 37 percent from the field in the game and connected on 6-of-15 threes (40 percent). They came up with 15 assists on 20 made baskets and they grabbed 37 rebounds. They held OBU to 29.6 percent shooting in the game while forcing 19 turnovers.

Pappas led all scorers with 16 points on a 5-of-12 shooting night. She also came up with four rebounds three steals and two assists. Cydney Tibbits finished with 15 points, including 12 in the first half, while grabbing 10 rebounds for her second double-double of the season. Kelsi Wells added 11 points and Nicole Yazzie recorded eight assists.

Zbeyda Aremi led the Bison with 12 points and Charity Fowler had nine points and nine rebounds.

The Griffins will now take some time off for the holidays before returning to action at the GSAC Challenge in Santa Barbara, Calif. They open the event on Dec. 28 against San Diego Christian (Calif.) before facing the host Westmont (Calif.) on Dec. 29.
