Women’s Hoops Back in First with Win over Great Falls

Box Score GREAT FALLS, Mont. – Behind three players in double figures the 20th-ranked Westminster College women's basketball team defeated the University of Great Falls, 62-58, on Friday night in Frontier Conference action.

Westminster improved its record to 12-7 overall this season and to 5-1 in league games.  The win, added with a loss by Lewis-Clark State College, moved them back atop the conference standings.  Great Falls dropped to 7-13 overall and 1-5 in the Frontier with the loss.

The Griffins shot just 37.5% from the floor in the game, but they took advantage of 13 offensive rebounds by turning them into 10 second chance points.  They also connected on seven attempts from beyond the arc while recording 16 assists on 21 made field goals.  The defense held UGF to 35.5% shooting and just 16.7% from beyond the arc.  The Griffin held the Argos leading scorer, Kezia Ford, to a season-low four points.

Shelby Ellsworth led the Griffins with a game-high 20 points.  It was just the second 20-point performance of her career and the first time she had reached double figures in six games.  The freshman forward also grabbed six rebounds and was a perfect 2-of-2 from beyond the arc.

Nicole Yazzie added 18 points and two assists for Westminster.  Dana Bates finished with 10 points and nine rebounds to go with two assists, one steal and one block.  Cydney Tibbitts had seven points and a game-high 13 rebounds and Jenteal Jackson scored seven points with three assists.

Lindsey Abramson led three Argos is double figures with 12 points while also collecting 11 rebounds.  Sydnee Burke and Chelsea Adams had 11 points apiece.

Westminster will now travel to Havre, Mont. for Saturday's game against Montana State-Northern.  The Griffins will be looking for their eighth win in the last nine games when they tipoff at 6 p.m.
