Box Score SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster College women's basketball team exploded from three point territory on their way to an 84-52 win over Rocky Mountain College in Frontier Conference action on Saturday evening.
The win is the sixth straight for the Griffins and keeps them perfect in conference with a 4-0 record. They are now 11-6 overall on the season and have gone 7-2 in the Behnken Field House. Rocky drops to 12-6 overall and 1-2 in league.
Westminster, ranked No. 24 in this week's NAIA Top 25 Coaches' Poll, finished the night with a season-high 16 threes. That ranks as the third-most in a single game in school history and is just one shy of the record 17 that was set twice previously. They shot a season-best 48.5% from beyond the arc while attempting a season-most 33.
The Griffins started fast by scoring the first eight points of the game and then pushed the advantage to 25-6 with 12:15 remaining in the first half. During that early run, Westminster posted six triples on their way to nine in the half when they led 45-19. In the second half, Westminster shot 53.6% from the field while adding another seven threes on 12 attempts.
Westminster finished the game at 49.2% shooting. They grabbed 40 rebounds and turned seven offensive boards into 12 second chance points. The Griffins held RMC to 37.3% shooting and just 2-of-12 (16.7%) from deep. Rocky was forced into 14 turnovers which the Griffins turned into 16 points while they also had a 9-0 edge in fast break scoring.
Jenteal Jackson had a great all-around performance for the Griffins. She finished with a game-high 14 points on 5-of-8 shooting with three triples. Jackson also grabbed six rebounds to go with a season-high seven assists and four steals.
Amy Krommenhoek finished with 12 points, six rebounds and two assists.
Tia Pappas added 13 points with
Dana Bates and
Nicole Yazzie chipping in nine apiece.
Alli Blake led Rocky with 12 points and Micki Scally added 10 points. The Bears scored 32 points in the paint and scored 13 points from 12 Westminster turnovers.
Westminster is now off on a three-game road trip that begins on Thursday at No. 6 Lewis-Clark State College. That game will begin at 6:30 p.m. from Lewiston, Idaho.
