DILLON, Mont. – For the second consecutive the Westminster men's basketball team suffered defeat in Dillon. Saturday the 16th-ranked Griffins dropped an 81-74 decision to Montana Western in a matchup of last season's conference tournament finalists.
Westminster slips to 17-5 overall and 5-3 in the Frontier Conference while Western improves to 17-6 and 5-3.
Westminster couldn't overcome the 54.9% shooting and only nine turnovers by the home standing Bulldogs. Western shot 60% in the first half where they held a 40-36 advantage at the intermission. Western also won the rebounding battle 33-26.
The Griffins had four players reach double figures led by
Michael Stockton's 16 points. Stockton shot 5-of-10 from the floor while posting four assists and three rebounds.
Jake Orchard added 13 points and a team-best six rebounds.
Tanner Gregory and
Chris Cassity scored 13 and 10 points respectively.
Westminster will now head to Butte, Mont. for a Saturday matchup with Montana Tech. Tech stunned Westminster with a 40-footer at the buzzer in Salt Lake City last month.
