Box Score WESTWEGO, La. – The 10th-ranked Westminster College men's basketball team defeated Dillard (La.), 73-59 during the opening day of the Big Easy Challenge on Wednesday evening.
Westminster improves to 12-3 overall this season with the win. They also climb to 8-2 in games played away from Salt Lake City and 2-1 in neutral site games. Dillard drops to 0-13 on the year with the loss.
The Griffins shot 54.7% from the floor in the contest and had 42 points in the paint. They made four of their nine attempts from beyond the arc and finished with a 33-29 advantage on the glass. Westminster held Dillard to 39.6% shooting and forced 17 turnovers which resulted in 24 points for the Griffins.
Jake Orchard led three Griffins in double figures with 19 points. He was 6-of-8 from the field with one make from distance and three rebounds.
Ben Walker added 18 points and four rebounds.
Drew Phillips added 10 points off the bench.
Terry Church led Dillard with 12 points coming off the bench. Myron McGowan added 11 points and three rebounds.
Westminster will conclude the Big Easy Challenge on Thursday when they face No. 7 Texas Wesleyan at 5 p.m.
