VICTORIA, British Columbia – The Westminster College men's basketball team improved to 2-0 for a second consecutive after defeating the University of Victoria 78-70 on Saturday night in Canada. Westminster swept the two games with Victoria (1-4) after an 88-85 win on Friday night.
The Griffins put five players in double figures and shot 54.9% from the floor.
Jake Orchard and
Drew Phillips finished with 14 points apiece to lead Westminster. Orchard added four rebounds and was a perfect 8-of-8 at the foul line.
Ben Walker had 12 points and five rebounds while
Tanner Gregory and
AJ Reilly scored 10 points apiece.
Westminster held just a 37-32 lead at intermission but, they would open up the lead to 63-50 with 8:25 remaining. The lead would remain in double figures until there was 1:20 remaining on a three-point play from the Vikes Pierce Anderson. That would be the final points of the contest and the Griffins would hold off Victoria down the stretch.
Terrell Evans led Victoria with 18 points and Reiner Theil had 13 points and six rebounds.
Westminster will return to action on Tuesday, Nov. 1 when they travel to St. George, Utah for a game with in-state rival Dixie State.
