SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster women's lacrosse team hung around with No. 9 Colorado State early before dropping the game 19-3 in the home opener on Friday afternoon. Westminster drops to 3-4 on the season and 0-1 in the Rocky Mountain Women's Lacrosse League.
Colorado State took a 1-0 lead just over four minutes into the game before the Griffins rallied for two straight goals a little more than three minutes apart with 20:04 to play in the first half. From that point on Colorado State took advantage of the draw controls and the game, scoring the next 15 goals to seal the victory.
Westminster got goals from
Lindsey Mark,
Yvonne Sumampong, and
Kaicee Beal. Sage West and
Clare Rakowski collected four ground balls apiece with West adding as assist on the Griffins first goal. Westminster collected 30 ground balls to 29 by Colorado State and was 10-of-16 in clear opportunities.
Jessie Mulvey made 10 saves between the pipes to match her season high.
Westminster returns to action on Saturday, March 6 at 8 a.m. when they host Air Force in the first of two games during the day. The Griffins will also face Wyoming at 11:30 a.m. with both games being played at Dumke Field.
