JACKSON, Tenn. – After a 67-55 opening round win against Lambuth, the Westminster women's basketball team will face Oklahoma Christian in the second round of the 2010 NAIA Division I National Championship on Friday evening. The third-seeded Griffins will face the seventh-seeded Eagles for just the second time in school history when they tipoff at 3:30 p.m. MDT on Friday.
Westminster advanced to the second round by outscoring Lambuth 27-4 during an 8:33 stretch of the second half during Wednesday's opening round game. This is the second consecutive season that Westminster has advanced past the opening round and the third time in four trips to the tournament. Westminster has never advanced past the second round.
Oklahoma Christian moved into this match-up after upsetting No. 2 seed Point Loma Nazarene 66-63 on Wednesday night. Oklahoma Christian trailed by as many as 15 points in the first half and trailed by seven with 11:38 remaining in the game. From there a 7-0 run and then free throws carried the Eagles to the upset win.
AGAINST OKLAHOMA CHRISTIAN
Westminster and Oklahoma Christian have met once before with the Griffins falling 64-55 on December 4, 2004. This is the first meeting with a team from the Sooner Athletic Conference for the Griffins this season and first since facing Southern Nazarene in the second round of the 2007 national tournament.
