SALT LAKE CITY – The 10th-ranked Westminster women's basketball team will play in the Behnken Field House for the final time of 2010 when they host the Griffin Invitational this weekend. Westminster will play William Jessup on Friday, December 3 and they face The Master's College on Saturday, December 4. Both games will begin at 5:30 p.m. and follow a game between Montana State-Northern and the non-Westminster opponent each night.
The Griffins enter the Griffin Invitational with a 10-2 overall record after splitting two games at the Lady Yote Classic last weekend. The Griffins picked up a 50-41 win over George Fox on November 26 before falling 99-72 against Whitworth on November 27. The Whitworth loss snapped a nine-game winning streak for the Griffins.
William Jessup Rematch
Westminster will meet William Jessup for the second time in three weeks. The Griffins defeated the Warriors 85-43 in a meeting on November 19 in Rocklin, California. With that victory, Westminster is now 2-0 all-time against WJU. William Jessup is 0-8 on the year and dropped an 81-64 decision with Southern Oregon on November 29. Ashley Rose leads the team in scoring at 13.3 points per game and scored 32 points in the previous game against the Griffins.
Meet the Mustangs
The game on Saturday against The Master's College will be the first meeting between the two teams all-time. Westminster is 2-1 against teams from the Golden State Athletic Conference this season. The Master's heads to SLC with a 4-0 record and claimed a 74-72 win over Hope International on November 30. The team is third nationally in free throw percentage at 80% from the stripe while ranking sixth nationally in scoring offense at 87 points per game.

Ranking the Griffins
Westminster can be found in the NAIA top 50 in 19 statistical categories. They rank second nationally in total blocks (43), total assists (198), total 3-pointers made (87), and total scoring offense (867). They have 130 total steals to rank sixth while the 446 total rebounds is seventh. The Griffins shoot 74.3% from the foul line to rank 12th in the NAIA.
Chasing 1,000
Senior
Dani Evans has scored 805 points in her career and sits just 195 shy of becoming the fifth player in school history to join the 1,000 Point Club. Evans is averaging 9.2 points per game this season and is on pace to finish her career with 979 points. She currently ranks fourth in school history with 132 made 3-pointers which are 17 shy of
Keshia Catten in third. Evans has never missed a game in her Westminster career and she should finish as the career leader as games played at Westminster.
From the Charity Stripe
Westminster is tied for first in the Frontier Conference in free throw shooting at 74.3% from the stripe. The team has shot above 70% at the line in 8-of-12 games this season and has been above 80% four times.
Nicole Yazzie is shooting 85.7% from the line to rank second in the Frontier and 22nd in the NAIA.
Cleaning Their Mess
The Griffins have been aggressive on the offensive boards so far this season. Westminster has collected 137 offensive rebounds which is 34.3% of all available Griffin missed shots. They have reached double figures in offensive rebounds in seven games and grabbed a season-best 19 against George Fox on November 26.
Frontier Favorites
In a poll of the Frontier Conference women's basketball coaches, the Westminster women's basketball team was chosen to win the 2010-11 championship. The Griffins received five first-place votes and 47.5 total points in the poll. They also received a split first-place vote with Lewis-Clark State College. This is the first time the Griffin shave been chosen to win the league and the first time they have received a first-place vote.
Nation Taking Notice
The Westminster women's basketball team will start the 2010-11 season with a No. 10 national ranking. The NAIA Women's Division I Basketball Coaches' Top 25 Preseason Poll was released by the NAIA on October 25 with the Griffins receiving 223 points to earn the highest preseason ranking in school history. Westminster finished last season ranked ninth in the final poll.
Home Cooking
Over the past three seasons, Westminster has gone 31-5 at home including a perfect 14-0 in Frontier Conference action. They have won five straight at home to start the year and 17 of the last 18 games played in the Behnken Field House. Westminster has won 17 straight conference home games dating back to the 2007-08 season with the last conference home loss coming on January 24, 2008 to Carroll, 66-56.
Handling Their Business
The Griffins are 9-0 against NAIA teams that are not ranked in the NAIA top 25 this season after going 24-0 in that situation last year. Over the past three seasons, Westminster is 57-2 against non-ranked opponents. The last unranked team to defeat Westminster was Georgetown College (Ky.) on December 6, 2008. That is a span of 47 straight wins over unranked opposition.

Westminster will play a pair of exhibition games against NCAA DI opponents. They face the University of Utah at the Jon M. Huntsman Center on Monday, December 6 and then travel to Laramie, Wyoming to play Wyoming on Saturday, December 11.
