SALT LAKE CITY – The 10th-ranked Westminster women's basketball team completed the 2010 Westminster Fall Classic with a 94-34 win over Pacific Union. Westminster (7-1) had 12 players see action with 11 of them scoring. The win is the sixth straight for the Griffins and improves them to 5-0 at home this season.
“I think we took some steps forward this weekend,” head coach JD Gustin said of the tournament.
The Griffins shot 52.2% from the floor and went 10 of 26 (38.5%) from beyond the arc. The team posted 26 assists on 35 field goals while grabbing 56 rebounds. They scored 48 points in the paint and totaled 24 second chance points. Defensively they limited Pacific Union (0-5) to just 16.1% shooting and only 7.1% in the second half. Westminster forced 24 turnovers in the game and turned them into 28 points.
“We are still trying to get better,” coach Gustin said. “We play some good teams coming up.”
Rebecca Beaudoin led four players in double figures with 16 points. The freshman guard went 4 of 7 from 3-point territory while recording four assists and one steal.
Brooke Larsen had 15 points and a team-best eight rebounds off the bench.
Dani Evans added 15 points while
Michelle Pace scored 10.
Olivia Pierce-Eiselein had four points and eight blocked shots.
“It was great to see
Nicole Lynch and
Chantelle Bateman out there getting some minutes,” Gustin said. “Those two work hard everyday in practice so I was happy for them tonight.
Lara Canders led Pacific Union with 12 points including 6 of 6 at the foul line. Pacific Union didn't make a field goal over the final 13:32 of the game.
Westminster will return to action on November 19 when they face William Jessup in Rocklin, California at 6 p.m.
