Eight Griffins Named Scholar Athlete

SALT LAKE CITY – The NAIA announced the 2008-09 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athletes and the Westminster women's basketball team placed eight players on the list. The eight are: Keshia Catten, Dani Evans, Mara Hoskins, McKenzie Jessop, Elisa Leader, Nicole Lynch, Michelle Pace, and Alexis Tucker.

Hoskins and Leader are receiving the honor for a second consecutive year and become just the fifth and sixth players to receive it twice at Westminster. Since reinstating women's basketball in 1999, Westminster has now had 25 players be named a Scholar Athlete. The eight players named this season is the most of any team in the NAIA and is double the previous school best of four set least season.

In order to be a recipient of the Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete award, one must fulfill these requirements: the recipient must be a junior or above in academic standing; has been in attendance at the nominating institution a minimum of one full year of attendance; has a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.50 (on a 4.0 scale) at the time of nomination at the nominating institution; has been certified as eligible.
