CEDAR CITY, Utah – The Westminster women's basketball team dropped a 72-62 decision against Southern Utah on Thursday night. The game counts in the records for SUU but is an exhibition game for the Griffins. This is the second straight exhibition game loss to an in-state NCAA D1 opponent for Westminster, following a loss at Utah last Saturday.
Westminster trailed 40-24 at halftime after allowing SUU to shoot 61.5% while shooting just 27.6% themselves. The Griffins played better in the second stanza, shooting 43.8% and outscoring the host squad 38-32. Westminster forced 26 turnovers and turned them into 24 points.
Keshia Catten and
Allie Eastman finished with 13 points apiece to lead the Griffins. Catten shot 5-of-7 from the field and connected on three triples.
McKenzie Jessop had 10 points and nine rebounds.
Dani Evans added 10 points off the bench.
Westminster returns to NAIA action on December 29 when they face Emmanuel in Lake Wales, Florida. The Griffins will battle Union (Ky.) on December 30 to complete the trip to Florida.
