BOX SCORE

SALT LAKE CITY - Halie Sawyer had her second double-double of the season to lead Utah to a 68-35 victory over NAIA Westminster on Saturday, Dec. 12.

Sawyer had a team-high 11 rebounds to go along with 10 points. Taryn Wicijowski, who is the reigning MWC Player of the Week, led Utah with 20 points on the night. Janita Badon was also in double figure scoring with 12 points.

Although both teams got off to a slow start with the score just 10-5 after the first 10 minutes, Utah held Westminster scoreless through the final 7:30 of the half and scored 15 unanswered points for a 30-8 halftime lead. Wicijowski tallied 11 points by halftime.

The Utes (5-4) hadn't held a team to eight points in a half since Feb. 20, 2003, a 66-22 win over San Diego State. Utah outscored the Aztecs 32-8 in the second half in the victory.

Utah substituted liberally throughout the second half, with the Ute bench tallying 15 points, led by seven from Diana Rolniak. Several players saw the most action they had seen this season, while Hennasea Tokumura, who has been sidelined since last season with a knee injury, played for the first time since March 12, 2008. Sasha McKinnon scored a season-high six points.

Angela Fales led Westminster with 11 points. The Griffins are ranked 20th in the latest NAIA poll.

Although the game counts in the records for the Utes, it is considered an exhibition game for Westminster.

Westminster will face Southern Utah on December 17 in another exhibition game in Cedar City.
