No. 17 Westminster Has Big Night in 101-70 Win Over No. 21 Lewis-Clark State

SALT LAKE CITY – History was made at the Behnken Field House on Saturday night as the Westminster women's basketball team beat Lewis-Clark State College 101-70. Senior guard Shannon Evans recorded the first triple-double in school history for No. 17 Westminster and was one of four players in double figures. Westminster (17-5, 7-0 Frontier) shot 54.8% from the field and made 14-of-27 from beyond the arc.

Evans took over in the second half and finished the night with 24 points, 12 rebounds, and 11 assists. As a team, Westminster shot 61.3% in the second stanza and posted 57 points. Evans had 20 of her points in the second half and guided the team into 14 fast break points.

“She just wants to win and she makes everyone better,” head coach JD Gustin said of Evans.

Westminster trailed 29-28 with 4:57 to play in the first half before going on a 16-4 run to end the half. In that opening 15 minutes the game featured 15 lead changes and four ties. Alexis Tucker had two makes from beyond the arc and Elisa Leader had four points during the final five minutes as Westminster took control of the game.

Leader got the team going early, scoring 18 of her game-high 27 points in the first half. Leader shot 10-of-14 and made four 3-pointers. Tucker finished with 17 points and six rebounds. Westminster turned the 22 L-C State turnovers into 30 points. They also got 19 points off the bench, led by 10 from Mara Hoskins.

“This is a great win for us,” said Gustin. “L-C is a great program and has been for a long time. For us to step up in front of a nice home crowd, we are really proud of them. Everyone was real good tonight and we defended our tails off.”

“It's nice, but it doesn't happen without my teammates,” Evans commented. “This was definitely a team effort tonight and it feels good.”

Lewis-Clark State (14-6, 4-3) was led by 21 points from freshman Jasmine Stohr. She also grabbed three rebounds, dished out four assists, and had four steals. Kenna Reiter had 10 points and seven assists while Sadie Short went for 16 points.
